An African Woman’s Crown, by Mitchelle Achieng

The following poem was written as part of a poetry-writing event at Spurgeons Academy, to mark World Poetry Day

Being an African lady is best of all

From design and beauty to fashion and career

What our world tells about hair, from fairy tales to advertisement

A woman’s crown is the best of all a lady can have in life

Women shine bright like a diamond

And they are seen clear as water

Women are more powerful and strong

They appear like light in the dark

Thank you African women

For being courageous and helpful
