The following poem was written as part of a poetry-writing event at Spurgeons Academy, to mark World Poetry Day
It is a time to celebrate
A time for all to rise and shine
All the flowers are in bloom
And the sky is bright and blue.
There is not a cloud or rain in sight
It is a time to celebrate
A time to pray and play
The ram is slaughtered, the rice is fried
And all arrive ready to feast
There is plenty for all to eat
It is a time to celebrate
A time to feel alive and free
We sweep away our worries with a broom
Of joy that makes all problems flee
There is love and joy all around
It is a time to celebrate
A time for the young and old to rise
From their lips the music flows
And their faces glow with joy
There is a roar as the dancers move
