Supporting children who are living and begging on the streets of Kigali has always been one of the core pillars of GNPDR’s work. Where possible they seek to help the children to return home, or be placed in foster care, and to re-engage with education. But sadly, despite the number that GNPDR have been able to help, because of poverty and family breakdowns new children keep coming and the need for the work goes on.
Recently Jeremiah and Angelique, the GNPDR staff members for this project, started visiting a new site that has seen an increasing number of street kids and so far about 21 children have connected with the GNPDR programme.
Through the programme, the children get the opportunity to chat with the staff about why they are on the streets, as well as discuss options for getting off the streets, re-engaging with education or vocational training, and get snacks, and access to a medical check if they have any concerns.
Grateful thanks to the CRED supporters who already donate monthly towards this work.
