The following poem was written as part of a poetry-writing event at Spurgeons Academy, to mark World Poetry Day
The Environment
Oh! Where are the trees
That were here last month?
Cut down, cut down, cut down,
So no rain today!
Where is the river
That flowed from here last week?
Dried up, dried up, dried up,
So, crops are no more!
Where are the cool breezes
That we enjoyed every morning?
Gone, gone, gone
So we have no comfort now!
Alas, what the hell
Is this place becoming?
A desert, a desert, a desert
So there is no life here anymore!
What remedy do we have then
To this impending menace?
Conserve, conserve, conserve the environment
So that future generations can have food to eat
