Mattresses to the prison

1,000 Mercy Mattresses were recently distributed to prisoners in 4 of the Rwandan prisons that GNPDR works in.

Made by genocide victims, who are given employment as part of this project, the mattresses have a Biblical message of hope and forgiveness incorporated into the mattress material, so enabling the message to be passed on to the prisoners on a daily basis.

On this occassion the mattresses were distributed by GNPDR to Muhanga prison, Nyamagabe women’s prison, Rubavu prison and Musanze prison. Accompanying the GNPDR staff was Gary Franz, VP of the international Good News Ministry, which raises funds to enable Mercy Mattresses to continue.

The prisoners were delighted to receive the mattresses, as can be seen by the photo below showing the prayer gathering that took place to give thanks for the gifts.

Whilst at Musanze prison, GNPDR CEO Pius Nyakayiro also distributed clothes and toys to the 99 children who live in the prison with their mothers. Pius said of these children: ‘they are innocent and yet, deprived of their rights, are facing many challenges, and nobody cares. They can’t speak for themselves, yet they don’t like the environment they are in.’
