Peter is a 14-year-old boy who was previously living on the streets and exposed to various social challenges that negatively affected his well-being, behaviour, and education. In 2025, Peter was admitted to Chisomo shelter while in Grade Six. At the drop in centre, he was provided protection and psychosocial support.
As part of his rehabilitation process, Peter participated in mental health awareness sessions. The sessions focused on emotional healing, self-awareness, and positive coping mechanisms, helping him gradually regain confidence and stability. In addition, Peter attended drug and arts therapy sessions, which provided a safe and creative platform for self-expression, behaviour change, and recovery support.
Since joining the shelter, Peter has shown remarkable improvement academically, emotionally, and socially. He is currently in Grade Seven and continues to demonstrate commitment to his education and personal growth. His progress highlights the positive impact that consistent care, mental health support, education, and rehabilitation programs can have on vulnerable children.
