Great news for the nursery school children in the Nkhata Bay area of Malawi. The Stepping Stones / Butterfly Space team have just opened a new nursery school – Majika nursery in Chisombe village near Nkhata Bay. This makes six functioning nursery schools in the Butterfly group, and at each one the children get porridge five days a week. The nurserys in the rural areas have volunteer teachers who go every day and are receiving training as part of their volunteer commitment.
The group of nursery schools have toy boxes that rotate round the schools, so that the children regularly have new things to play with and learn from.
All the teachers from across the six schools have regular training on how to make resources and games from next to nothing. And they also receive training on how to use and look after the toy boxes, so that they can maximise on the items in the boxes when they come to their school.
