Off the streets and into school

Dieu Don is a 14-year-old boy who had lived on the streets of Kigali in Rwanda for two years due to family conflict and violence. One day, he met the street outreach team from GNPDR and accepted counseling from them. This led to him asking GNPDR if they could help him to get home again, as life on the streets was so awful. GNPDR helped to trace his family and they then went on to mediate reconciliation between DD and his parents. Sadly the reconciliation did not fully solve the problems, but DD still returned home to southern province when he was sick and needed someone to take care of him. Once there, it became clear that DD would not be able to stay with his birth family long-term because the father struggles with alcohol addictions and cannot support his son. But, by the grace of God, DD got a got a foster family and now he receives educational and school materials and is enrolled in Primary 6 and doing very well. He attends school regularly and dreams of becoming a school teacher. His guardian says, “This program gave me a son and brought blessings to our family.”
