Uganda team blog – Tuesday (2)

Today was our second day in teaching the Acholi Quarters and the children are really beginning to get comfortable with us and form very special bonds. We all really enjoy seeing the smiles on the children’s faces and the short amount of time we are here will have such an impact on them.

After the day of teaching the group split into our teaching groups and my group did home visits and the other did bead making. You really get an insight into the way they live by being in their homes. It’s also mad to think that the home I was in which had a double bed a small floor space had 7 people living there and the space where they live is probably the size of most of our bedrooms. The translator was asking where we go as a family if we ever lack recourses or in need of something, which for her she said she begs her neighbours. And for some of us we don’t even interact with our neighbours and even know them. Just the thought that we can go to the shop if we need anything and the people who live in Acholi can’t do this really gives an impact on all of us as a group.- Kayla

My group did bead making. The Acholi women made it look so simple, it really wasn’t. Bead making was a very stressful time for our team as some were obviously better than others (sorry Gabii), however surprisingly as a group we managed to make quite a few beads actually worth using  (Mum 10 of them were mine just saying –Jordan) . It’s lovely to see how wiling they are to share their recourses that they use for a living and just give you the beads like its nothing but in reality they would spend all day making beads to make such a little amount of money.- Jordan

It’s great to see how well all of us have bonded and how we can just laugh together and at each other and we all are really looking forward to teaching the children for the rest of the week and making our bonds even stronger.

P.S we are having a kiss competition so families and friends seriously need to up their x’s because Jamie is losing.

  7. Kayla, I love the fact you are understanding that we are very lucky and we take so many things in life for granted. We are all the same, with one different were we were born in this world, so with the help of these amazing project like cred, it allows the children and family out there small opportunities to meet all of the lovely people cred bring to them, with tools to help aid in there learning.
I’m missing you like crazy home life is not the same, I don’t even like you to sleep at a friends house because I like being around you. I had a visit off Chloe yesterday and her exams are going ok. Then I had a visit off Ben too. Missed a FaceTime with Millie moo yesterday, but she had best pop in to see me as there is a huge void at home.
